Fascinating. I love the image of Guilt and Regret shaking hands like two businessmen. Are they wearing suits, does each of them have a tie? Is this a "working lunch" over sandwiches? I love it.
ps: I picture them in these dapper stripped suits, Guilt a Shiv-Roy-like stone cold lady and Regret kind of like Patrick Bateman (worrisome-much?). How are your Guilt and Regret like?
I think of Guilt like Danny DeVito in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and Regret like the brother who lives in an RV in "Vegas Vacation" with Chevy Chase, and they're both dressed up in thrift-store, brown suits for a job interview, and they're meeting after each of them blew the job interview for Happy Hour at a bar with free peanuts.
This really resonated with me! I’m always feeling guilty- whether because I did something or because I didn’t. You really expressed some of the deep deep feelings I haven’t been able to put into words, thank you for that. I try to be more gentle and compassionate every day but it really is a battle!
Fellow reader here too; very interested in Biography of X, waiting for your review and more quotes. I’m also latina and I’m very intrigued although intimidated by Cortázar’s writing, I’m hoping one day I’ll get around to it :)
thank YOU for reading it! I am so glad to reach others who feel the same way, specially a fellow latina ;)
Can't wait to write a full review for Biography of X. Hope I can persuade you to read it! Cortázar is very intimidating indeed, but once you get close to his style, he becomes so interesting. (If you'd like to look into him, I'd reccomend you start with Bestiario, a short story collection perfect as an introductory read)

Wonderful piece!
An introspective journey through guilt and self-forgiveness that beautifully captures the complex dance between self-blame and absolution.
Thoroughly enjoyed!
